When the old putty around a window cracks and falls out, the best quality window in the world can’t keep heat and cold from getting in. Make your home Energy Efficient by scraping off the old Putty and applying a fresh layer of Putty around your windows and lower your utility bills.

You can put new putty in by following these steps:

  • Using a putty knife, take out the old putty. Be sure to remove all of t.
  • Put the new glazing putty around the window. You can use a rope of putty or the canned type.
  • Press down on the putty with the putty knife, forming a triangular shape. Be sure to press firmly, so it adheres to the frame and the window. If the putty is too stiff or if it rolls up, take it off and knead it with a little mineral oil until the mineral oil is worked in. Then put it back on the window.
  • Let it dry for a few days.
  • Paint the putty to protect it from getting too dry. Be sure to use an oil based primer first because putty is an oil based product. The paint can be water based.
